Blickman’s CRT Table: Making Our Georgetown Table RAO-Friendly
As new and more complex procedures are developed to improve patient care, existing standard equipment often becomes unsuitable. Physicians and end-users are often the first to discover problems with out-of-date equipment and know what is needed to solve the problem. Therefore, Blickman works with physicians and end-users to customize equipment to fit their needs and meet new demands in the industry.
Seth J. Worley, MD*, of the MedStar Heart & Vascular Institute at Lancaster General Hospital in Lancaster, PA, is an internationally recognized expert in cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) for pioneering his approach to cardiac implantation referred to as “interventional CRT”. Dr. Worley has personally developed unique tools and techniques to facilitate and optimize electrophysiology (EP) procedures.
Dr. Worley identified a problem during one of his procedures, in which the RAO camera hit a standard instrument table’s legs, obstructing the camera’s projection and in turn limiting the physician’s view. Dr. Worley reached out to Blickman about customizing our Georgetown table to include an extension that would allow room for the RAO camera to rotate.
Blickman engineers were able to design this customized version of the Georgetown table, manufacture it to his specifications, and send it to Dr. Worley’s lab. Dr. Worley himself evaluated the new procedure arrangement and tested out the efficacy of the new table design.
Dr. Worley is a senior consultant at MedStar Health, an investigator of multiple clinical trials, and a frequent speaker at national and international medical meetings. Finding the new design to be a success, Dr. Worley wanted to spread the word in order to assist his colleagues in the field. Soon, Blickman was receiving multiple requests for the “Dr. Worley CRT Table”.
